Will Standing Promote Your Physical Health?

This research identified the detrimental effects of too much sitting as well as the positive effects of standing with the use of a standing desk to improve people's health. Standing up, stretching and walking are great ways to combat the negative effects of sitting for too long. When you stand up, your body starts to perform wonders which are beneficial to your health. Your muscles and cells are activated and started to process blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides which are types of lipids that circulate in your blood. Triglycerides store unused calories and provide your body with energy while cholesterol is used to build cells and certain hormones.

Sitting uses less energy which means that unused calories and high triglycerides could increase the d risk of heart, obesity and metabolic syndrome. These are actually the after-effects of too much sitting. Standing consumes more energy, lowes your triglycerides, increases good cholesterol and decreases your risk of obesity and diabetes.

Your body was designed to move and to be active all day. When you remain seated for an extended period of time, your brain will get less oxygen and fresh blood that is needed to release mood-enhancing enzymes to make you more productive at work. Standing makes your healthier, more alert and more focused.

Chronic sitting is one of the causes of back pain and neck. When you are tied to your desk job, consciously make an effort to have office exercises such as squats, lunges, stretching, meditation and stimulate breathing. Manage your schedule to include exercise at least 30 minutes a day even when you’re at work.

Increase your physical movement and use a standing workstation. Google and Facebook provided standing desks to its employees and some universities provided standing desk to its students. They noticed a significant rise in productivity, alertness, and focus during working hours. Ask your boss to provide you with a standing desk, this move will not only make you healthier but also efficient at your job.
