Many believe that clutter limits the ability of a person to perform better. It limits the strength of your brain to think better. Clutter is something that we should eliminate for us to function better at work and become more productive. People working on a messy desk get less work done because sometimes there is no room or space when it comes to working. Pushing some paper stuff further will only make things worse because you are just creating a pile of paper that is unnecessary.

We must eliminate this if we want to experience a serene working environment. Here are a few tips on what we should do in order to have a clutter-free working space.


Make Time to Declutter

Have a schedule on the things that need to be decluttered. Just like any other routine, you must have a list of what is required to be removed from your table from time to time. Allow yourself to have a list of all the things that should be removed after a certain period of time. This will help you to have a more organized working station.

Decide the Location of Items

When working in a cluttered area, people start to feel overwhelmed. Allow yourself to check the so-called clutter and try to arrange it yourself. Labelling is one way that you can identify which items are essential and which ones are least important. In reviewing and providing things that are important and least important, it is relevant to follow guidelines so you won't be misguided.

Important Items #1: These are the items that you are using daily. These are items should be on top of your desk. You must carefully choose the things that must be visible on your table — an example of these could be pens, papers, or a laptop.

Important Items #2: These are frequently used items that must be within your reach but not actually on top of your desk. These are commonly used however not daily. One of the examples for this is a stapler, scissors and paper clips.

Important Item #3: These are most of the items you occasionally use; these items should be next to the closest items. Examples of these items are computer cords, so some stuff that you don't usually use but necessary in your work.

Important Item #4: These items you rarely use, usually these are items that you put in your closet. Normally these are duplicate copies of books, excess office supplies or accessories from your gadgets that you need to safe keep.

Important Item #5: These are items that you don't use but still keeping because of its value. Preferentially, these items should be let go.

Designate Particular Spaces for Particular Things

Once you have all the items arranged, it is important to keep them in the right space. Many of us are always in a hurry after we fix things. We need to ensure that after we segregate the essential things, we provide a place where we can easily get them when we need them.

We want everything to be fixed, that is why we need to get things done and situated in the right place after setting all the items. We have to bear in mind that the purpose of labelling all our things is for us to put everything back to its proper place every time we finish using them.  

Put Plan Into Action

Now that you were able to organize all your stuff in the right place, it is now time for you to be able to sustain this. You need to have a better understanding of how you will be able to keep up and get rid of any clutter in your workspace. By merely planning how you can declutter will help sustain a clutter-free desk. Writing it down will help you prepare with what you need to do in case there's a need to purge a specific file. By using a simple software or application will allow you to be reminded of the things that you need to remember via laptop or your desktop.

Since the goal of a sit-stand desk is to stand while working, it can contribute to your mind to be active. This will allow you to think fast, thus making you finish your work on time. It can make you think of the other things that need to, and this includes decluttering unnecessary things.
